A standout player for the Detroit Lions recently shared some blunt thoughts about Kansas City, and it’s safe to say many Chiefs fans won’t appreciate it.

For supporters of the Kansas City Chiefs, there’s a lot of hometown pride tied to their city. Kansas City has its charm—Midwest culture, passionate sports fans, and of course, a winning football team. But apparently, that’s not enough to impress everyone.

One Lions star didn’t hold back while speaking about KC on his podcast. Even though he tried to keep it light, his comments still had a sting to them.

While players like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce seem to love life in Kansas City, not every NFL athlete feels the same way. Despite the team’s multiple Super Bowl wins, this Detroit wideout made it clear he’s not envious of anyone playing there.

Amon-Ra St. Brown Shares Honest Take on KC

Amon-Ra St. Brown, one of the NFL’s top receivers, stirred the pot during the June 18 episode of the St. Brown Brothers Podcast, which he hosts with his brother, Equanimeous St. Brown.

Their guest that day was Houston Texans rookie Jaylin Noel, a Kansas City native. The conversation shifted to Midwest cities, and that’s when KC became the topic.

St. Brown recalled visiting Kansas City during the NFL Draft and gave a blunt opinion.

“I’ve been to Kansas City. I was there for the draft,” he said on the podcast. “Bro, I’m sorry. If I ever come into money, I’m not staying there.”

A little harsh? Maybe. But everyone’s entitled to their preferences. St. Brown clearly prefers other places over Kansas City—even though Detroit winters aren’t exactly tropical. Speaking from personal experience, Midwest winters can be brutal. Still, it’s worth remembering that St. Brown was simply sharing his own take on the city, not launching a personal attack on Chiefs fans.

Interestingly, St. Brown will be back in Kansas City later this year when the Lions travel there for a game in October. Maybe spending some more time in town will give him a different perspective.

Local Media Reacts to St. Brown’s Comments

Leigh Oleszczak from Arrowhead Addict offered a reasonable response in a June 24 article, reminding readers that St. Brown’s opinion isn’t the end of the world.

“In the same way Kansas Citians love their city for its community vibe and size, others like St. Brown may prefer places with more nightlife and entertainment options,” Oleszczak wrote. “It’s understandable.”

Meanwhile, One Chiefs Receiver Is Glad to Be Home

While St. Brown isn’t dreaming of moving to Kansas City, one current Chiefs player is thrilled to be back on the field for 2025. Rashee Rice, a wide receiver for the Chiefs, was named in a Bleacher Report feature highlighting NFL players making their return after injuries.

Kristopher Knox, writing for Bleacher Report, pointed out that while Kansas City’s offense wasn’t as explosive in 2024 as it had been in previous years, Rice’s return should help turn things around.

“As long as Andy Reid is coaching and Patrick Mahomes is at quarterback, fans will enjoy watching the Chiefs,” Knox noted.

In short: While St. Brown isn’t sold on Kansas City living, others—players and fans alike—continue to embrace the city and all it brings to football Sundays.
