Kelly Stafford, wife of NFL quarterback Matthew Stafford, recently shared a brutally honest and hilarious story about a painful beauty experiment gone wrong. On her June 26 episode of her podcast, The Morning After, Kelly opened up about her failed attempt at giving herself a bikini wax at home.

According to Kelly, she decided to try an at-home waxing kit she bought from Amazon for around $20. Wanting to save money instead of going to a professional salon, she thought doing it herself wouldn’t be too difficult. Unfortunately, she quickly realized she had made a big mistake.

“I honestly thought I could do it,” Kelly admitted on her podcast. “But it was miserable. I have never been in so much pain.”

Kelly described the entire experience as overwhelming and painful from start to finish. She explained that once you apply the wax, there’s no turning back. The only way to remove it is to rip it off—and that’s exactly where things went wrong.

“I didn’t take anything for the pain,” she said. “I probably should have taken an edible or had a drink or something because doing it sober was the worst choice.”

As she told her listeners, the whole process turned into a long, uncomfortable ordeal. Even after managing to rip off some of the wax, she struggled with leftover sticky patches that wouldn’t come off easily.

Kelly also joked that while she wanted to save the money she would have spent at a waxing salon, the experience was so bad she’ll gladly pay the extra cost in the future. “It was the worst decision I’ve made in a long time,” she said with a laugh.

Her story struck a chord with many listeners, especially women who have had similar experiences with at-home beauty treatments gone wrong. The candid moment also showed Kelly’s willingness to be open and real with her audience—even when the story is a bit embarrassing.

In the end, Kelly’s message was clear: some things are better left to the professionals. When it comes to sensitive areas like the bikini line or pubic region, a trained esthetician is probably the safer and less painful choice.

Her honesty sparked plenty of laughter and online reactions, making her relatable to women everywhere who’ve had their own beauty mishaps.
