Although many in the football world hail Patrick Mahomes as one of the greatest quarterbacks the NFL has seen, Jared Goff doesn’t seem to share that opinion.
During the newest season of Netflix’s “Quarterback” docuseries, Goff was asked to reveal his personal ranking of the top ten quarterbacks in league history — and Mahomes didn’t make the cut.
In a brief segment from the show, the Detroit Lions quarterback listed legends like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Joe Montana, John Elway, Drew Brees, Philip Rivers, Eli Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, Brett Favre, and Aaron Rodgers. Notably absent were current stars like Mahomes and two-time MVP Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens.
Rodgers, who currently plays for the New York Jets, was the only active player Goff included — with the rest of the list filled by NFL icons from previous eras. Goff emphasized Brady’s unmatched seven Super Bowl wins as a key reason for calling him the best ever. He also credited Montana, a San Francisco 49ers great, as the inspiration behind his choice to wear the number 16 jersey — a nod to his Bay Area roots.
While Goff gears up for another campaign after a disappointing postseason exit at the hands of the Washington Commanders, he’s also been enjoying an eventful offseason on the personal front.
Earlier this week, Goff and his wife, Christen Harper, shared that they had welcomed their first child. The announcement came via Instagram, where they posted a heartfelt series of black-and-white photos of their newborn daughter, Romy Isabelle Goff. Aside from her name, the post was left without a caption, though the comments were flooded with warm wishes from fans and friends.
The couple first shared news of the pregnancy in February, when Christen made a public appearance showing her baby bump. They originally connected in 2019 through the exclusive dating platform Raya — the same app where Olympian Simone Biles met her now-husband, NFL player Jonathan Owens.
Since Goff’s trade from the Los Angeles Rams to the Lions in 2021, both he and Christen had to leave California behind to start a new chapter in Detroit. Most recently, the couple attended an NFL awards event in New Orleans, where Goff was nominated for both MVP and Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year.
Detroit wrapped up their 2024 regular season with an impressive 15-2 record, though their playoff journey was cut short in the Divisional Round.
