As the countdown to training camp draws to a close, the Detroit Lions have finalized several roster adjustments.
On Friday, the team officially confirmed via social media that rookie offensive lineman Tate Ratledge had been signed, completing the remaining open slots on the roster.
Following the placement of nine players on various injury lists and the release of undrafted rookie running back Anthony Tyus, the Lions brought in three new additions to reinforce the squad.
Among those joining the team are running back Jabari Small and two defensive backs. After signing Tyson Russell, Detroit also brought in veteran cornerback DiCaprio Bootle to strengthen the secondary.
Bootle, 27, who played college football at Nebraska, was a member of the Kansas City Chiefs team that won the Super Bowl in 2022. Although undrafted in 2021, he managed to land a spot on Kansas City’s roster and has since spent time with both the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Chargers.
According to an NFL scouting report, Bootle started for three seasons on the outside in college but will need to prove himself playing inside at the pro level. Known for his quickness and agility, he has the tools to play tight man-to-man coverage in the short and intermediate areas. He performs better in press coverage situations than when playing off-man. However, he can struggle against bigger receivers on deep throws due to a lack of size and length. Still, his footwork and physicality help him compete effectively on short routes and contested plays. His speed and athletic traits give him a chance to succeed, though finding the right system will be key.
With these latest moves, Detroit’s roster now sits at 91 players. The Lions received an additional roster spot thanks to Ahmed Hassanein’s eligibility under the International Player Pathway program.
