Jameson Williams’ Contract Extension Price Tag May Be Emerging

Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams is now eligible for a contract extension, and there’s growing speculation about what kind of deal he might command.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport recently reported that the Denver Broncos have reached a new agreement with wide receiver Courtland Sutton — a four-year, $92 million extension. “The Broncos have agreed to terms on a new contract extension for WR Courtland Sutton, sources tell The Insiders. It’s a 4-year, $92M deal,” Rapoport posted on X. “The deal done by Milk & Honey Sports locks Sutton in and properly compensates him at last.”

That contract will pay Sutton an average of $23 million per year, a figure that could serve as a benchmark for Williams’ eventual extension with the Lions.

Although Detroit has Williams under team control through the 2026 season thanks to his fifth-year option, the team isn’t expected to begin extension talks until the 2026 offseason. After breaking the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in 2024 and solidifying himself as a major vertical threat in the Lions’ high-powered offense, Williams has raised his value significantly.

Looking ahead to 2025, the former Alabama standout is projected to continue his upward trajectory. Should he build on his breakout year, Williams will likely be in a position to negotiate a major extension — potentially even surpassing Sutton’s deal. At just 24 years old, his youth adds even more leverage to his future contract negotiations.
