The Detroit Pistons have made an official roster update, bringing in guard Colby Jones on a two-way deal. The announcement was made Tuesday, with Jones now filling one of the team’s two allotted two-way contract slots.
To make room for the new addition, the Pistons have parted ways with Ron Harper Jr., who was waived as a corresponding move. As is standard with team policy, the financial terms of Jones’ new contract were not publicly disclosed.
Jones entered the NBA after a strong college career at Xavier University. He was selected with the 34th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets but was quickly involved in a series of trades — first going to the Boston Celtics, then landing with the Sacramento Kings, where he began his pro career.
During his rookie season with Sacramento, Jones saw limited court time, playing in 30 games and averaging just six minutes per contest. His production was modest, contributing 2.0 points and 1.0 rebound per game, while shooting 39 percent from the floor.
Jones continued to receive sparse minutes early in his second year, appearing in 24 games for the Kings and averaging five minutes per game. However, his role expanded significantly after a trade deadline move sent him to the Washington Wizards.
In Washington, Jones earned more consistent playing time, averaging 26 minutes per game. He made the most of his opportunity, posting 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists per game while shooting an efficient 47 percent from the field.
In a follow-up trade, Jones was recently sent to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Dillon Jones and a future second-round pick in 2029. Shortly after arriving in OKC, he was waived.
Now 23 years old, Jones will look to continue his development with the Pistons and their G League affiliate, the Motor City Cruise.
