Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff got an unexpected boost this week when Taylor Swift casually mentioned him during an interview.
Swift appeared on the “New Heights” podcast, hosted by her boyfriend Travis Kelce and his brother Jason, as part of the rollout for her latest album The Life of a Showgirl. While chatting on Wednesday, she admitted that she once misunderstood how football worked.
“I used to think quarterbacks lined up against each other,” Swift joked. “Like, Jared Goff on one side, Josh Allen on the other, then a whistle blows and they just go at it to see who wins.”
Of course, that’s not remotely how football is played, but her playful take brought plenty of laughs — and caught Goff’s attention.
When reporters asked him about the shoutout the next day, Goff admitted he was caught off guard.
“Pretty wild, right? Definitely cool,” he said. “My phone was going crazy for a couple hours after that. It was fun.”
For Goff, who has already experienced being a top NFL Draft pick and playing in a Super Bowl, the Swift mention added another unique milestone to his career. As far as name-drops go, few carry as much star power as one from the world’s biggest pop star.
