The New Orleans Saints have become one of the key teams to watch as the trade deadline nears, with contenders around the league eyeing potential upgrades to their rosters.
At 1-6, the Saints are in full evaluation mode. With numerous holes across the lineup and little hope for a playoff push, the franchise may look to move some veteran talent in exchange for valuable draft assets to aid a rebuild.
While much of the trade talk has centered on wideouts Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that New Orleans is also open to listening to offers for cornerback Alontae Taylor — but only if the right deal comes along.
According to Fowler, the Saints aren’t actively shopping Taylor but could be swayed by a strong proposal. Multiple teams have already shown interest. Taylor, who becomes a free agent in 2026, is expected to command a sizable contract, and the Saints may prefer to invest in their younger defensive backs like Kool-Aid McKinstry, Quincy Riley, and Jonas Sanker.
Taylor has been a regular starter since entering the league, though his play has dipped slightly compared to his standout rookie season. With the emergence of New Orleans’ younger corners, a move could be mutually beneficial — especially as he nears the final stretch of his current deal.
If Taylor does hit the market, several playoff-caliber teams could come calling. The Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions, and Philadelphia Eagles are all rumored to be keeping tabs on the situation.
Buffalo’s secondary remains a weak spot. Tre’Davious White has struggled to regain his pre-injury form, and while Christian Benford has shown promise, the depth behind him is shaky. Rookie Maxwell Hairston is set to return soon, but his lack of experience makes him a risky option.
In Detroit, the injury bug has decimated the cornerback room. With Terrion Arnold and D.J. Reed sidelined — along with their replacements — the Lions are desperate for reinforcements.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are also dealing with instability in the secondary. Adoree’ Jackson and Kelee Ringo have both struggled, and injuries to Jakorian Bennett have further complicated matters. With Quinyon Mitchell as the lone steady presence, adding a player like Taylor could solidify the unit.
If New Orleans ultimately makes Taylor available, don’t be surprised if one of these three contenders pulls the trigger before the trade deadline.
