Former Lions DC Aaron Glenn Brings His Trademark Fire to the Jets

As the 2025-26 NFL season looms just weeks away, the Detroit Lions are stepping into unfamiliar territory—without key leaders from last year’s success. While most of the spotlight has landed on former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson heading to rival Chicago, it’s Aaron Glenn’s move to the New York Jets that might turn out to be just as impactful.

Glenn, who served as Detroit’s defensive coordinator for four seasons, built a reputation for his blunt, no-nonsense attitude—and that same fire is now blazing through New York. The Jets are quickly learning what Lions fans already know: Glenn doesn’t hold back, especially when it comes to the media.

Aaron Glenn Isn’t Backing Down

During a press conference on August 20, Glenn clashed with a Jets reporter over the team’s run-heavy approach in a pass-dominated league. When the reporter questioned whether he was concerned about their lack of downfield passing, Glenn shot back: “Who says it’s a passing league?” He doubled down, pointing out that the reigning Super Bowl champs ranked 29th in passing and dominated on the ground.

It was classic Glenn—sharp, confident, and unapologetically bold. It’s that same edge that earned him respect in Detroit and is now shaking up the culture in New York.

A New Chapter—And a Bigger Stage

Now the head coach of the Jets, Glenn already feels the difference. After a narrow preseason loss to the Eagles, he called it “one of the most exciting preseason games I’ve ever been part of.” While openly critical of the mistakes and penalties, he praised his players’ resilience and hunger, emphasizing their fight to win until the final whistle.

“This team didn’t quit,” Glenn said. “They were electric on the sidelines and tried to will themselves to victory.”

The Lions may miss Glenn’s fire, but they’ll be watching from afar. Let’s hope Detroit doesn’t have to face the new-look Jets this season—because Glenn has brought his trademark intensity to the big stage, and he’s just getting started.
