The Detroit Lions are currently looking for a new offensive coordinator to replace Ben Johnson, and an outside candidate has emerged as a potential fit. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, John Morton, the Denver Broncos’ passing game coordinator, has interviewed for the position. Morton, who was on the Lions’ staff in 2022 as a senior offensive assistant, is no stranger to Detroit. He also interviewed for the offensive coordinator job when Dan Campbell first took over as head coach in 2021.

Morton’s name was brought up by Campbell in 2022, when the head coach praised his contributions to the Lions’ offensive system. Campbell highlighted how Morton’s work the previous year helped shape the team’s offensive development and benefited Tanner Engstrand, the passing game coordinator.
