The NCAA transfer window opened on Tuesday, and the Wisconsin Badgers have already lost four players: guard John Blackwell, forward Aleksas Bieliauskas, forward Jack Robison, and center Riccardo Greppi.

In today’s college basketball scene, rosters are constantly changing as players seek to transfer for greater compensation, more playing time, a better squad, or a variety of other reasons. That has diverted focus away from high school basketball, since there is a requirement for ready-now players with finances at stake.

This offseason, Wisconsin’s lauded 2024 recruiting class has disintegrated. Daniel Freitag, a former four-star guard, was the first to leave, followed by Robison and Greppi this offseason.

Freitag departed for a better chance, joining the Buffalo Bulls and having a breakthrough season in 2025. Freitag averaged 19. 8 points, 4. 3 rebounds, and 3. 8 assists for the Bulls, shooting 41. 1 percent from the field and 36. 1 percent from beyond the arc.

Well, after a successful season, Freitag is returning to the transfer market to capitalize on a successful year in the MAC. It’s a fascinating choice, since the point guard had both highs and lows as the program’s leader. He struggled with efficiency within the arc, and his defensive flaws remained an issue, but he excelled in transition and demonstrated the ability to be a good point guard.
