Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report has suggested that the Packers should consider signing former Arizona Cardinals All-Pro cornerback Patrick Peterson to help shore up their secondary. While Peterson is no longer the player he was in his prime, he could provide valuable depth and experience for Green Bay’s defense as they prepare for the postseason.
The loss to the Lions highlighted the secondary’s vulnerabilities, as both Alexander and Corey Ballentine were unavailable due to injury. With both of them out, the Packers’ depth at cornerback was tested, exposing the need for reinforcements. Signing a veteran like Peterson, who has a wealth of experience, could be a strategic move to address these issues.
Peterson, a former Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro, enjoyed the best years of his career with the Arizona Cardinals from 2011 to 2018. Though he is no longer in his prime, his performance over the past two seasons has still been impressive, with seven interceptions and 26 passes defended. His experience and ability to play at a high level could be crucial for the Packers as they head into the postseason.
Although Peterson may not be the dominant force he once was, his veteran presence and solid production in recent years could make him an ideal option for Green Bay. The Packers should at least bring him in for a workout to evaluate what he has left to offer as they aim to strengthen their defense for a playoff push.
