Detroit Lions first-year defensive end Ahmed Hassanein is maintaining a strong outlook despite a pectoral injury that could keep him sidelined for most — if not all — of the 2025 season.

Over the weekend, the sixth-round draft pick addressed fans on Instagram with a deeply personal update. Though disappointed by the setback, he expressed gratitude that surgery won’t be necessary, meaning his recovery will rely on rest and rehabilitation.

“God is good, I’m blessed,” Hassanein shared in his post. “Thank you to everyone who has checked in on me. I’m grateful no surgery is needed—just patience and healing. God is good all the time. I may not always understand His plan, but I trust His timing. I’ll be back, hungrier than ever. All glory to Jesus.”

Faith as His Anchor

Alongside his statement, Hassanein shared several Bible verses that reflect his mindset during recovery. He quoted Jeremiah 29:11, which speaks of God’s plans for hope and a prosperous future, as well as Proverbs 3:5-6, encouraging trust in the Lord’s guidance. He also included John 13:7, reminding readers that some trials only make sense in hindsight.

Setback to a Promising Start

The timing of the injury is especially difficult given how well Hassanein had been performing in camp. Coaches and teammates had applauded his energy, quick learning, and strong work ethic, suggesting he could make an early impact. Now, his focus will shift to rehabilitation and long-term growth.

Head coach Dan Campbell admitted it remains uncertain if Hassanein will see the field again this season. Still, the rookie made his intentions clear in his message: he fully expects to return stronger.
