The Minnesota Vikings left Ford Field not only with a big divisional win but also with plenty of bragging rights.

After guiding the Vikings to a 27-24 victory over the Detroit Lions, rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy couldn’t resist poking a little fun at Detroit. On Monday morning, he shared a carousel of game photos on Instagram with a short, four-word caption.

Those familiar with Lions head coach Dan Campbell will recognize the playful nod. The caption references Campbell’s memorable January 2021 press conference, where he famously vowed that his team would “bite kneecaps” on their path to respect in the league.

McCarthy Shows Both Confidence and Humor

It’s rare for a young player to take a lighthearted jab at one of the NFL’s most charismatic coaches, but McCarthy seems unfazed by the spotlight. The former Michigan Wolverines star threw two touchdown passes and helped Minnesota deliver a stinging loss to the Lions following their bye week—a defeat that left both Campbell and Lions quarterback Jared Goff frustrated, with Goff noting that the offense “wasn’t on the same page.”

McCarthy’s Instagram post quickly went viral, earning laughter from fans while also drawing a few raised eyebrows across social media.
