Jared Goff comments on Lions' significant coaching shakeup this offseason.

The Detroit Lions experienced significant coaching staff changes following their Divisional Round loss to the Washington Commanders, with several coaches being poached. The biggest blow was the departure of offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who joined the Chicago Bears. Jared Goff, who was in Orlando for the 2025 Pro Bowl Games, shared his thoughts on Johnson’s exit during an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Goff joked, saying he wished Johnson hadn’t joined a division rival so he wouldn’t have to face him twice a season. He added that their relationship remains strong, and he’ll always support Johnson. Goff also discussed the new offensive coordinator, John Morton, noting that they’ve already had conversations and have a past working relationship. Morton was a senior offensive assistant with the Lions in 2022.

In 2024, Detroit’s offense was one of the most potent in the league, ranking second in total offense (409.5 yards per game), second in passing (263.2 yards per game), sixth in rushing (146.4 yards per game), and first in points per game (33.2). Keeping this high level of performance is now Morton’s responsibility. With over two decades of NFL experience, Morton has worked with teams like the Oakland Raiders, New Orleans Saints, San Francisco 49ers, New York Jets, and most recently, the Denver Broncos. He brings a diverse offensive background that he plans to implement in Detroit.

With stars like Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Sam LaPorta, David Montgomery, and Jahmyr Gibbs, the Lions have the talent to maintain their offensive success. Now, it’s up to Morton to keep up the standards set by Johnson, but he has the full support of his quarterback.

Despite the challenges, Goff and the Lions are determined to make sure they sweep Johnson and the Bears in the 2025 season.
