This season, Williams was in excellent form when he sustained a foot injury in SEC action. Williams underwent surgery but worked tirelessly to return to the court for the playoffs.
It was evident in the postseason that Williams didn’t have enough time to brush away the cobwebs, but he nevertheless made some key plays, and Big Blue Nation was grateful for his efforts to return to the court for this club. Now, Williams will be entering next season seeking to make a significant impression in college basketball.
This season, Williams appeared in 24 games for the Wildcats, averaging six points, 2. 1 rebounds, and one assist each game. He made 44. 9% of his field attempts and 35. 9% of his three-point attempts. In around 19 minutes per game, Williams did not produce the offensive numbers that some expected him to before the season, but he was outstanding on the defensive end.
Williams is a dangerous three-point shooter, and I anticipate him to have a fantastic season shooting the three-pointer in his second year in Lexington. It seemed like last season, Williams lacked trust, but as the year progressed, he gained more. Williams will start the season with this confidence, and I expect him to average double digits.
Williams has a lot of NBA potential, so if he can completely find himself as a scorer next season, he may be a player who sneaks into the first round. At 6’8″, Williams can shoot over guards, and his tremendous wingspan allows him to play smothering defense. Big Blue Nation truly wanted to see Williams return to Lexington for another season, and the fans will get their wish.
During the 2026-27 season, Williams will be able to stay on the court, and if he does, his offensive production will be considerably higher than it was during his rookie year in Lexington. It will be intriguing to see what Williams’ role will be, as Pope has a lot of work to perform in the portal. Whether as a starter or off the bench, Williams will have an outstanding season, reaching his full potential.
