We all know that Alabama will have a strong recruitment season this summer, similar to the previous two years. However, at least in terms of appearance, losing another promise this early in the 2027 cycle would not be ideal for Kalen DeBoer.

As of now, Alabama only has four pledges for the 2027 class. That places them in the same situation as a year ago, when everyone believed the sky was falling, only for a big summer push to propel the Crimson Tide up the standings as they signed a second consecutive top-five class.

However, of Alabama’s four current commitments, just two appear to be certain: 4-star quarterback Trent Seaborn and 3-star tight end Oakley Keegan, who committed to the Crimson Tide a few weeks ago.

3-star CB Nash Johnson has been openly flirting with competitor Auburn, and now 4-star TE Colt Lumpris, who intends to make a large number of visits despite his commitment to the Tide, is seeing Kentucky step up the pressure in his recruitment:

Kalen deBoer will have to battle to keep 4-star tight end Colt Lumpris.

The New Jersey native committed to Alabama last December. He fits DeBoer’s ideal tight end profile: 6-foot-6 and very athletic. However, commitments mean little these days, and the early signing period is more than eight months away. His recruitment is very much up in the air.

Kentucky is approaching recruiting differently under new head coach Will Stein. The Wildcats made a strong impression on 5-star Alabama quarterback prospect Elijah Haven, and while Haven is unlikely to end up in Lexington, the fact that they got engaged in that conversation demonstrates a newfound vitality and dedication to football that the Wildcats have lacked.

DeBoer will have to work hard to keep Lumpris. Kentucky will not be the only school to pursue the 4-star tight end between now and December.
