Mark Pope is determined to address Kentucky’s point guard situation this year. Last season was hampered by problems at the position, and acquiring a strong player with adequate support behind him is critical. To that end, Pope is pursuing numerous top point guards in the transfer market, including Rob Wright, the top-rated one available, according to Kentucky Sports Radio.
Wright was a top 25 prospect in the 2024 class who committed to Baylor. As a freshman, he averaged 11. 5 points and 4. 2 assists per game. He transferred to BYU and had a significant breakthrough, averaging 18. 1 points and 4. 6 assists while shooting 40% from three-point range.
Wright will undoubtedly be approached by a number of schools that require a point guard. However, his fit at Kentucky is unquestionable. Pope covets his ability to produce opportunities for others as well as himself, something he hoped to achieve with Jaland Lowe before being hurt.
The Wildcats may have to pay some money to obtain Wright, but they are capable of doing so. He would be a fantastic addition, and the sort of player who might help Kentucky compete next season. We will update this narrative as more information becomes available.
