After testing the NBA Draft waters, standout guard Otega Oweh has officially announced his return to the University of Kentucky for his senior season. The announcement comes as a major boost for the Wildcats, who are gearing up for a strong campaign in the 2025–26 college basketball season.
Oweh, who transferred to Kentucky from Oklahoma, played a key role for the Wildcats during his junior year. Averaging 16.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.6 steals per game, he emerged as a consistent force on both ends of the court. He scored in double figures in 33 of the 36 games he played, showcasing his reliability and ability to shine in pressure situations. One of his most memorable moments came in the SEC Tournament, where he hit the game-winning shot against his former team, Oklahoma, leaving their head coach visibly emotional during the postgame press conference.
After the season, Oweh entered the NBA Draft process, receiving invites to the NBA Draft Combine and conducting workouts with multiple teams including the Portland Trail Blazers, Houston Rockets, and Boston Celtics. Despite the valuable feedback and experience, Oweh made the heartfelt decision to return to Lexington for one more season.
“I found a family in Kentucky forever,” Oweh wrote in a social media post announcing his decision. “Let’s run it back, I’m staying home.”
His return is not only a testament to his love for the program and the community but also to head coach Mark Pope’s supportive leadership. Pope encouraged Oweh throughout the draft process, emphasizing that he should make the decision that felt right for him. “Otega has earned this right to make the decision. He’s an incredibly special person with an incredibly bright future,” Pope said.
With Oweh back in the fold, Kentucky instantly becomes a legitimate contender for the national championship. His scoring ability, defensive intensity, and leadership will be invaluable as the Wildcats prepare for what could be a historic season.
Oweh’s return has electrified the fanbase and brought renewed energy to the Kentucky locker room. As he prepares for his final college season, all eyes will be on Oweh to help lead the Wildcats to glory — and perhaps raise a banner in Rupp Arena.
