Mark Pope Praises Kam Williams’ Early Impact at Kentucky
While most fans have their eyes on the upcoming football season, Kentucky basketball supporters are already looking ahead to what could be an exciting second year under head coach Mark Pope.
Over the offseason, Pope and his coaching staff have worked tirelessly to build a completely revamped roster, and one of the standout additions is Tulane transfer Kam Williams.
Speaking with local reporters recently, Pope highlighted how impressed he’s been with Williams’ early contributions. The 6-foot-8 wing is known for his ability to defend and knock down three-pointers — a classic “3-and-D” skill set — and has quickly earned Pope’s respect.
“I’m incredibly proud of Kam,” Pope said. “He’s come into a brand-new program and immediately bought in. It’s amazing as a coach when you can give a player a directive — tell him to do something every time — and he actually does it, every single time.”
Pope believes Williams’ consistency and coachability can help set Kentucky apart from the competition this season.
Last year at Tulane, Williams posted solid numbers, averaging 9.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. He also shot an impressive 41.2% from three-point range — a shooting touch that should translate well into Pope’s offensive system in Lexingto
