Before stepping onto campus for his freshman year, Kentucky commit Malachi Moreno still has a few high school milestones to complete.

The most significant of these is his participation in this week’s McDonald’s All-American Game in Brooklyn, New York. The towering seven-footer is among the 24 players selected for the prestigious event.

His arrival in New York was slightly delayed, but for a good reason. Moreno had unfinished business back home at Rupp Arena. Leading Great Crossing through an impressive stretch of four victories in three days, he helped secure the school’s first-ever state championship.

In the final matchup against Bowling Green on Saturday, the top-30 national prospect delivered a dominant performance, tallying 24 points (making 10 of 11 shots), 15 rebounds, three blocks, and two assists while playing the full 32 minutes. Great Crossing claimed the title with a 71-61 win.

Understanding the significance of the moment, McDonald’s organizers allowed Moreno to join the event late so he could finish his high school season with his team. Despite his delayed arrival, he wasted no time standing out. On3’s Jamie Shaw ranked Moreno as the second-best player he observed in Sunday night’s scrimmage after the young star flew in that morning.

“It’s truly a blessing,” Moreno shared on Monday regarding his McDonald’s All-American selection. “As a kid, you grow up watching your idols earn this honor, and to now be in that position myself is incredibly special.”

Moreno is one of three commitments set to join Kentucky in Mark Pope’s second season at the helm, but he is the only one chosen for the McDonald’s All-American Game. Guards Jasper Johnson and Acaden Lewis didn’t make the final roster.

During Monday’s media session, Moreno was asked about eventually playing alongside Johnson in the 2025-26 season. Both players hail from Kentucky, adding an extra layer of excitement to their future partnership.
