New Kentucky point guard Jaland Lowe recently sat down for his first formal interview since arriving in Lexington, appearing on BBN Tonight with host Keith Farmer. The former Pittsburgh Panther opened up about his basketball journey, his goals at Kentucky, and his early impressions of head coach Mark Pope.
Lowe, a talented left-handed guard, made headlines this offseason when he transferred to Kentucky after a standout freshman year at Pitt. During the 2024-25 season, Lowe averaged 16.8 points, 5.5 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game, earning Third-Team All-ACC honors. Despite battling through a broken ring finger for much of the year, Lowe emerged as one of the top point guards in the transfer portal.
In the interview, Lowe discussed how playing through injury taught him resilience. He revealed that NBA star and former Kentucky Wildcat De’Aaron Fox was one of the players he reached out to for advice during his recovery. Fox, who also played through a finger injury during his time at Kentucky, offered words of encouragement that Lowe carried with him throughout the season.
Now healthy and eager to get started, Lowe spoke about the excitement of joining the Kentucky basketball program and wearing the blue and white in front of Big Blue Nation (BBN). He described the support from Kentucky fans as overwhelming in the best way possible and said that the energy around the program is unlike anything he’s experienced before.
Lowe also set the bar high for himself, stating one of his personal goals for the season is to become the first point guard in Kentucky history to average a double-double in points and assists over a full season. If achieved, it would be a historic milestone for the program.
In a lighter moment during the interview, Lowe poked fun at Coach Mark Pope, saying Pope’s energy level in practice is “off the charts,” and joked that the team will need to match his intensity just to keep up.
Lowe’s transition to Kentucky is also being supported by former Wildcats Aaron and Andrew Harrison, who have offered to mentor him as he adjusts to the pressure and expectations that come with leading the Kentucky backcourt.
With his combination of scoring ability, court vision, and leadership, Jaland Lowe is poised to become a key figure in the Wildcats’ 2025-26 season. His debut on BBN Tonight gave fans their first real glimpse into the mindset of one of Kentucky’s most exciting new additions.
