Josh Irving, one of the fastest-rising big men in the class of 2026, continues to draw national attention — and now has one of college basketball’s most prestigious programs in hot pursuit. The 6-foot-11 center recently received a scholarship offer from the University of Kentucky, and he couldn’t hide his excitement about it.
“I was super excited,” Irving told SI.com after receiving the offer. “Kentucky is one of the biggest programs in the country, and they’ve produced a lot of NBA guys, so it meant a lot to me.”
Irving has been on the radar of multiple top programs thanks to his length, athleticism, and versatility as a modern big man. He’s especially valuable as a stretch-four who can defend, run the floor, and shoot — a profile that fits perfectly with the evolving college and professional game.
Kentucky’s coaching staff has maintained regular contact with him, which Irving has appreciated. “We already had a good relationship,” he said. “They always call and check in. It’s consistent. Same thing with all the schools recruiting me.”
While Irving is thrilled about the Kentucky offer, he isn’t rushing into a decision. Instead, he’s taking his time and focusing on long-term development as the main factor in his college choice.
“I just want to go where I can keep taking leaps, developing, and get ready to play in the pros one day,” he explained. “I’m really focused on where I’ll develop the best. That’s my number one thing — getting better.”
Irving has lined up several official visits this fall, including stops at Kansas, Louisville, USC, San Diego State, Texas A&M, SMU, and Kentucky. His visit to Lexington is scheduled for October 10–12, aligning with Big Blue Madness — a prime recruiting event for the Wildcats.
Though Kentucky is now firmly in the mix, Irving’s recruitment remains wide open. His measured approach, emphasis on player development, and desire for a strong coaching relationship suggest that any school looking to land him will need to present a clear plan for his growth on and off the court.
As the 2026 recruiting class continues to take shape, Josh Irving is a name to watch — and Kentucky is now officially in the race.
