Leicester City’s appeal against their six-point penalty for violating English Football League financial regulations has been rejected. Football
An independent committee in February placed the punishment on the team, causing the Foxes to move from 17th to 20th, but they have since fallen into the Championship relegation zone and are now one point away from safety with five games left.
The Premier League first accused them of breaking profitability and sustainability regulations (PSR) about the 2023–24 campaign in May 2025, when they were a member of the Championship.
A Leicester statement said that “with the matter now at an end and five games of the season remaining, everyone at the club is completely focused on the matches in front of us and on shaping the outcome of our season through our results on the pitch. ” exterior
We appreciate the support that our supporters have given the squad during this difficult time.
“The responsibility now is to approach these remaining games with the focus and purpose that our current situation necessitates. “
After learning they were penalized six points on February 5, Leicester expressed their “disappointment” and deemed the penalty to be “disproportionate. “
The maximum loss for Premier League clubs under PSR is £105 million over three years, but the amount is decreased by £22 million for each season a club spends outside the top division.
Following their relegation last year, the EFL assumed the case, even though the Premier League had filed charges against them. They were ultimately determined to have violated PSR regulations in the English Football League.
Due to a delay in presenting their 2023-24 accounts, Leicester had maintained that their case should have been evaluated over a 36-month period rather than a 37-month one.
The commission determined that it should be 36 months, implying that the club exceeded the EFL’s regulations by £20. 8 million during that time. The limit was £83 million.
The Foxes submitted an appeal two weeks later, less than a day after Gary Rowett was named the team’s new interim head coach until the conclusion of the campaign.
Leicester’s performance has gotten worse since they were penalized six points, and after a streak of only one victory in 12 games across all competitions, they currently face an uphill battle to avoid a second consecutive relegation.
