Detroit’s front office continues to explore bold moves to boost their Super Bowl aspirations.
As the NFL trade deadline approaches on November 4, the Detroit Lions are expected to remain active in their pursuit of upgrades — particularly on the defensive front. With their sights set on a championship run, Detroit is reportedly scouring the league for a dynamic edge rusher who can strengthen an already aggressive defense.
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Lions have been making calls to several teams to gauge the availability of veteran pass-rushers. One name drawing heavy interest across the league is Miami Dolphins EDGE Bradley Chubb, a player who could be a perfect fit in Detroit’s system.
With Miami sitting at 1-5 and seemingly shifting into rebuild mode, the Dolphins may look to accumulate future draft assets before the deadline. That opens the door for a potential deal. A projected trade could see Detroit sending 2026 fifth- and sixth-round picks to Miami in exchange for Chubb’s services — a modest price for a player of his caliber.
What Chubb Brings to the Lions’ Defense
The Lions already boast one of the NFL’s most disruptive fronts, currently tied for fourth in the league with 19 total sacks. Aidan Hutchinson has been the anchor, leading the team with six sacks. Yet, pairing him with another proven edge rusher could elevate Detroit’s defense from good to elite.
In his return from a devastating 2024 knee injury that sidelined him for the year, Chubb has been productive for Miami, recording 15 tackles, 13 pressures, six quarterback hits, and four sacks through six games. His combination of size, athleticism, and experience makes him a valuable addition for any contending roster.
Over the course of his career, Chubb has built an impressive résumé: 43.5 sacks, 98 quarterback hits, 49 tackles for loss, and 14 forced fumbles. Those numbers underscore his ability to create chaos in opposing backfields and generate turnovers — two traits Detroit’s defense could use as they navigate injuries in the secondary.
The Contract Situation and Fit in Detroit
Chubb remains under contract through 2027, earning roughly $31 million over the 2026–27 seasons. Although that’s a significant figure, the Lions could rework his deal to free up cap space — particularly with an Aidan Hutchinson extension looming on the horizon.
From a roster-building standpoint, Chubb’s presence would be a strategic investment. Detroit’s secondary has been hit hard by injuries, so adding another pass-rusher capable of forcing quicker throws could help mask those coverage gaps.
Russini’s report makes one thing clear: the Lions are not content standing still. Their front office wants to make a statement before the trade deadline — and acquiring Bradley Chubb could be the move that cements Detroit as one of the NFC’s most complete teams.
