Lions Add Firepower Up Front, Drafting Elite LSU ‘Bomb Squad’ Linemen

To kick off the final day of the NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions made a strategic move by trading up from the sixth round to the fifth. In exchange for the 171st pick, they sent selections 182 and 228 to the New England Patriots. With that pick, they chose LSU offensive lineman Miles Frazier.

Frazier, a consistent presence on LSU’s offensive line, primarily lined up at right guard but also spent time at both tackle positions and left guard. His versatility and reliability made him a standout in college.

He enters a well-established offensive line unit in Detroit, considered among the league’s elite, boasting multiple All-Pro and Pro Bowl players. His transition may be smoother thanks to his connection with Lions defensive tackle Mehki Wingo—a former LSU teammate who was picked by Detroit in the previous draft.

Frazier reflected on his new team: “I’ve heard a lot from Mehki about how dominant Detroit’s offensive line is, both in practice and on game days. I’m excited to join a program with such high standards. I’m here to compete and contribute.”

The numbers speak for Frazier’s performance—he didn’t give up a single sack in 13 starts last year and only surrendered four in his entire college career. Dubbed part of LSU’s “bomb squad” front, Frazier has also demonstrated incredible durability, participating in every game over four seasons—three at LSU and one at Florida International. His college career includes over 3,200 snaps and 51 starts.

Frazier is Detroit’s second interior lineman selected in this draft, joining Georgia’s Tate Ratledge, who was picked in the second round.
