Lions Fans Receive Shocking, Unfavorable Updates on Potential Blockbuster Trade

Hopes of the Detroit Lions making a major move for Myles Garrett seem to be fading after two key developments emerged.

Following their earlier-than-expected exit from the 2024 NFL playoffs, many Lions fans were eager to see the team make a big acquisition to strengthen the roster. Garrett, who recently requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns, appeared to be an ideal fit to boost Detroit’s pass rush.

However, recent statements from both teams suggest that such a move is unlikely.

During the NFL Combine, Lions general manager Brad Holmes addressed the difficulty of acquiring an elite pass rusher, particularly as the team is working on an extension for Aidan Hutchinson. When asked if the Lions could afford another high-priced edge rusher, Holmes responded, “Probably not,” casting doubt on any potential deal.

Meanwhile, Browns GM Andrew Berry reinforced Cleveland’s stance on Garrett’s trade request, making it clear that moving their star defender is not part of their plan.

“I understand the trade request and everything, but our stance really has not changed,” Berry said. “We can’t imagine a situation where not having Myles as a part of the organization is best for the Browns.”

Despite this setback, the Lions still have several options to enhance their pass rush. While Garrett would have been the premier addition, this year’s draft and free agency class offer plenty of talent at the position. The Lions will need to carefully evaluate their financial flexibility, especially as they work on contract extensions for Hutchinson and safety Kerby Joseph.

Until those deals are finalized, it’s clear Detroit won’t be committing a massive contract to another edge rusher—especially when Hutchinson is already in line for a significant payday.
