Lions identify potential landing spot for $125 million superstar after trade request.

Garrett left his future with the Browns open at the end of the 2024 season, so this doesn’t come as a total shock. But it’ll be interesting to see how everything unfolds, as the Browns reportedly have no interest in dealing him, even after he made his demand public.

“As a response to Myles Garrett publicly requesting a trade, the Browns are reiterating today that they have no plans to trade Garrett and don’t have any plans to entertain offers,” FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz wrote.

“As a kid dreaming of the NFL, all I focused on was the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl — and that goal fuels me today more than ever,” Garrett wrote in his statement. “My love for the community of Northeast Ohio and the incredible fanbase of the Cleveland Browns has made this one of the toughest decisions of my life. These past eight years have shaped me into the man that I am today.

“While I’ve loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won’t allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete and win a Super Bowl.

“What that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns,” Garrett concluded.

In the aftermath of the earth-shattering trade request, The Sporting News’ Bryan Murphy suggested the Detroit Lions as a possible landing spot for Garrett.

“Sure, the team is already set up for the future with a ferocious attacker in Hutchinson, but as the Lions learned last year, there is no such thing as too much talent,” Murphy wrote. “Pairing Garrett and Hutchinson together would immediately give the Lions the most dominant pass rushing duo in the league.”

So, what exactly would it cost for the Lions to acquire Garrett? That remains to be seen, but we can assume it’ll be a pretty hefty package.

One unnamed general manager told The Athletic’s Dianna Russini it’ll probably cost a first-round pick and a second-round pick, or a first-rounder and two third-rounders to bring Garrett in.

Just in case you weren’t sure, yes, the Lions should absolutely pull the trigger on such a deal. Adding Garrett would take the Lions’ defense to a totally different level and make it the Super Bowl-caliber group Detroit needs it to be.

Just imagine having Garrett and Aidan Hutchinson opposite one another, and for multiple years. They would easily be the best pass-rush duo in the NFL and opposing quarterbacks wouldn’t sleep well at night, that’s for sure.

Detroit is a perfect landing spot for Garrett. Not only does he have another star to take pressure off him, the Lions are also one of the best teams in the NFL and will be a Super Bowl contender for a few more years, at least.

Garrett has two more years left on his massive $125 million contract, so there’s no risk of him being a short-term rental. And, the Lions are in a good enough spot in terms of cap space to fit Garrett’s contract in and extend him beyond 2026.
