Detroit Lions cornerback D.J. Reed is officially listed as Questionable for Sunday’s matchup with the New York Giants, but the veteran defensive back sounded more like a player ready to suit up than sit out. Reed hasn’t played since Week 4, yet his energy on Friday made one thing clear: he’s eager to help Detroit’s secondary get back to full strength.
D.J. Reed Shares Emotional Message: ‘The Word Is Gratitude’
Speaking with reporters, Reed emphasized how meaningful it felt to return to practice with his teammates.
“The word is gratitude… I’m just really happy to be back out there, but want to go out there and dominate and get the win.”
Reed acknowledged that only actual game snaps can fully restore his rhythm, noting that while conditioning helps, it can’t replace the “real deal” of live action.
Reed Says He Was ‘Getting Into My Bag’ Before Injury
Before suffering a wrist injury, Reed believes he was playing some of his best football of the season.
He highlighted strong performances covering Zay Flowers and Jerry Jeudy, as well as grabbing his first interception of the year in the same game he was injured.
“I definitely felt like I was getting in the groove of things… I’m looking forward to going out there and still dominating.”
Reed Praises Rock Ya-Sin and Lions DBs After Elite Showing vs. Eagles
Reed had high praise for Detroit’s patched-together secondary after they limited A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith last week.
“I haven’t seen anybody do that on film… They held them as best as anybody could. I feel like they’re starters in this league.”
He added a message fans will love:
“I’m just looking forward to going back out there and turning up with my boys for real.”
Detroit Lions Secondary Finally Returning to Full Health
Reed also spoke about the importance of the Lions getting healthy at the right time, with Kerby Joseph and Terrion Arnold trending upward.
“I’m excited for everybody to be healthy, especially as we go on this run. It’s the championship week — the Giants.”
A healthier defensive backfield could be a major boost as Detroit begins a key three-game homestand.
Will D.J. Reed Play Against the Giants? All Signs Point to Yes
Reed didn’t give an official guarantee, but his tone made clear he expects to play — and play a full workload if needed.
“If I have to play the whole game, I feel like I’m healthy enough to do that.”
Detroit needs him. The secondary needs him. And Reed is clearly ready to bring energy back to the field.
Expect No. 4 to suit up. Expect emotion. Expect juice. And expect Reed to help stabilize a Lions defense looking to get back on track.
