CHICAGO — The Detroit Lions adjusted their roster ahead of their Week 18 matchup with the Chicago Bears, making several moves on the offensive side of the ball.
Offensive tackle Giovanni Manu will remain on injured reserve and was not activated for the season finale as he continues to recover from a knee injury.
Head coach Dan Campbell indicated earlier in the week that Manu was unlikely to play, even with Penei Sewell sidelined. Veteran lineman Dan Skipper is expected to step in at right tackle.
Although Manu returned to practice three weeks ago, Campbell explained that the primary goal was to get him back into football shape and collect reps before the offseason rather than rush him into game action.
Detroit also placed interior lineman Trystan Colon on injured reserve due to a wrist injury, ending his season early.
Colon will miss the final three games of the year. With Colon unavailable and Kingsley Eguakun recently signing with the Cleveland Browns, Graham Glasgow is expected to reclaim the starting role at center.
To reinforce depth for the finale, the Lions elevated two players from the practice squad: tight end Zach Horton and offensive lineman Chris Hubbard.
Horton, an undrafted rookie from Indiana, has remained with Detroit since joining the team after the draft. His only game appearance came on Thanksgiving against the Green Bay Packers, where he logged eight snaps on offense and six on special teams.
With Sam LaPorta and Brock Wright both on injured reserve, Horton has been part of a tight end group led by Anthony Firkser and Shane Zylstra.
Hubbard, a 34-year-old veteran, has been on Detroit’s practice squad since early November and will be available for his first game action with the team. Over an 11-year NFL career, Hubbard has played in 102 games and made 61 starts.
He started three contests with the New York Giants last season and previously saw extensive starting time with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns. His versatility includes experience at both tackle and guard.
