After all, the LSU football team will not be losing an assistant coach. Jake Olsen, the safeties coach for LSU, has made the decision to stay in Baton Rouge, according to Pete Nakos of On3. According to accounts, Olsen was on his way to the NFL as a target for Dan Quinn’s staff with the Washington Commanders.
Olsen, who has been a longtime helper of LSU defensive coordinator Blake Baker, is welcomed back by the university.
When former head coach Brian Kelly reconstructed the defensive staff by hiring Baker, Olsen returned to LSU for his second tenure in early 2024. Baker and Olsen became acquainted in 2021 while they were both members of Ed Orgeron’s LSU team.
Following Kelly’s termination, Lane Kiffin, the new head coach, chose to keep the entire defensive team at LSU, including Olsen.
With AJ Haulcy performing at an All-American level, Olsen’s safety room was among the finest in the SEC in 2025. DaShawn Spears and TaMarcus Cooley also became important members of LSU’s secondary.
Cooley and Spears are returning, but Haulcy is leaving for the NFL, along with a talented transfer class that includes safeties Ty Benefield and Faheem Delane.
