Luke Fickell lost another behind-the-scenes operational staff member from the recruiting office. According to Football Scoop, he is expected to lose Wisconsin’s director of on-campus recruiting, Taylor Ewald. She is departing for the identical post at Iowa State under new head coach Jimmy Rogers. Despite being an unsung character, Ewald plays a crucial role.
Most Wisconsin supporters are likely unfamiliar with her, but she organizes visits, coordinates the on-campus experience, and assists with transcripts and other back-office duties. It is an important role that contributes to program commitments. The aim is frequently to persuade a recruit to commit before they even leave. That is entirely dependent on how much they are enjoying the experience.
Taylor Ewald, director of on-campus recruiting, is leaving for Iowa State in the same role.
Ewald’s decision to seek a new job should not come as a surprise, since Max Stienecker, her key supporter and essentially her boss, the Director of Player Personnel, moved to USC. Ethan Russo, the replacement, only stayed for a year before departing for Oklahoma State. So, it’s Darius Hicks from Michigan State, but also Marcus Sedberry, since it appears that they share responsibilities.
Clearly, there is a change in leadership occurring in that office. Ewald has apparently resolved to pursue a new chance under a new head coach, assisting Iowa State in establishing a new recruiting rhythm.
Luke Fickell will now work to replace Ewald, who arrived in Madison in 2023 and was crucial in assisting Fickell in securing each and every recruit who paid a visit. Even the ones that Fickell has been able to persuade to commit this season.
As Fickell prepares his club for spring practice and more and more guests want to visit in the near future, it is someone who has to be replaced as soon as possible.
Luke Fickell begins spring practices already frustrated with the offense.
The Wisconsin attack obviously has a long way to go, as it is only the first day of spring practice. The day unquestionably belonged to the defense, since the attack battled to retain possession of the ball.
After the Badgers’ first practice this spring, head coach Luke Fickell stated that there are several things to fix on offense going forward.
Fickell stated that today was not controlled. (It was) day one, so there is always a bit more emotion. However, there are numerous things we can learn from it. Defensively, he did an outstanding job of pursuing the ball and punching it. Offensively, we have to take care of things. There were far too many times the ball was on the ground, putting the offense in danger. Defensively, this may be beneficial. There are numerous things to rectify before moving on.
The Wisconsin attack lagged the defense on day one.
It’s not unexpected that the first practice was a little ragged around the edges, so there’s no reason to be concerned. The Badgers are rolling with a new transfer quarterback this season, Colton Joseph, thus there will be some adjustments for both him and the coaching staff. Still, Fickell was clearly dissatisfied with the offense’s performance, stating that there are many aspects that need improvement.
While Joseph is a dynamic dual-threat quarterback, accuracy has never been one of his strengths. He has two consecutive seasons of sub-60% completion percentage, and it is obvious that this will need to improve when he joins the Badgers. Nonetheless, he ran for over 1,000 yards last season for Old Dominion, providing Fickell and his staff plenty to work with.
The Badgers will attempt to recover after another poor season under Fickell. The offense has plenty of time to catch up, but it must start putting together some strong days in the spring.
