Luton manager Jack Wilshere has described how the club’s coaching staff and players have surrounded team-mate Liam Walsh with support since the sad news that his partner Missy Bo Kearns had miscarried recently.
The 28-year-old missed the 1-1 draw with Stockport County before the international break, as Wilshere provided him time to personally deal with what had happened while also being there for his girlfriend, who plays professionally for Aston Villa Women, when they eventually announced the disaster on social media earlier this week.
Walsh, who has been a first-team regular under Wilshere since taking over in October, was named Player of the Round for the Vertu Trophy semi-final after scoring his first goal for the Hatters in their 2-1 victory over Northampton Town last month. He has returned to training at the Brache and should be considered for selection against Peterborough United tomorrow.
Speaking about the ex-Everton youngster’s form, Wilshere commented: “He’s okay, he’s okay, we simply need to look after him. Everyone can see how much I appreciate Walshy as a player, and I adore him as a person since he is incredible. He is a leader in his own way, pushing the squad ahead with his performances, and I always refer to him as our technical leader. He sets the pace and rhythm for us, so he’s fine. Wilshere also stated that Walsh would have to determine if he was mentally prepared to play for the Hatters when they host the Posh on Good Friday, adding: “Always, because we demand a lot from the players technically, tactically, physically, but the one thing they have to be right is in their mind.
