Micah Parsons Fires Early Shot at Detroit as Packers Rivalry Looms

The Green Bay Packers haven’t even kicked off their 2025 campaign, but Micah Parsons is already letting Detroit know where he stands.

The All-Pro pass rusher, recently dealt from Dallas in one of the offseason’s biggest moves, was strongly linked to the Lions before landing in Green Bay. Instead of wearing Honolulu blue, Parsons will now make his Packers debut in one of the NFC North’s most heated rivalries — and he isn’t hiding his feelings.

“I can’t wait to play them,” Parsons said on Thursday. “I’ve never liked Detroit. Not when I was in Dallas, not now.”

Those words will ring loud in a division that already thrives on hostility. Parsons pointed to the recent Cowboys-Lions battles, which he called “heavyweight fights.” He remembers well how Detroit embarrassed Dallas 47-9 last year while he sat out with injury. Jared Goff picked apart the Cowboys that day with 315 passing yards and three touchdowns, solidifying Detroit’s status as one of the NFC’s most explosive offenses.

Now Parsons wants payback — but this time, the revenge tour runs through Lambeau Field. The Packers and Lions have split their past four meetings, with Detroit holding the momentum after back-to-back playoff seasons. Adding Parsons to Green Bay’s front seven could tilt the balance of power in a division that looks more competitive than ever.

On the other side, Goff brushed off Parsons’ arrival with a mix of respect and quiet confidence.

“There were rumors about him coming here, so I wasn’t shocked,” Goff said. “He’s a great player and makes our division tougher. But he’s had that back injury, so we’ll see if he’s even out there.”

The Lions’ quarterback also made it clear he embraces the “underdog” tag.

“I don’t really care what the outside world thinks,” Goff said. “We can’t ride the roller coaster of people saying we’re contenders one day and overrated the next. I actually prefer when they doubt us. That’s the side I like being on.”

For fans, this is shaping up as more than just a Week 1 matchup. It’s Parsons versus Goff, Packers versus Lions, and a fresh storyline in a rivalry that rarely disappoints. The NFL season couldn’t ask for a juicier opening act.
