Micah Parsons’ Green Bay debut may have to wait.
The Packers’ new pass-rusher, acquired in a blockbuster trade from the Dallas Cowboys, is dealing with a lower back injury. ESPN reports Parsons has an L4/L5 facet joint sprain, and his Week 1 status against the Detroit Lions is now in question.
Insider Adam Schefter noted the team could try an injection to get Parsons on the field. But no final decision has been made.
Sports physician Dr. Jesse Morse called the injury “better than a herniated disc,” but warned that injections only mask the pain. He says Parsons needs therapy, treatment, and eventually ligament strengthening.
“More annoying than concerning,” Morse said, though he admitted the back issue could limit Parsons’ explosiveness.
Parsons arrives in Green Bay after contract disputes with Dallas. The Packers wasted no time locking him up on a record four-year, $188 million deal with $120 million guaranteed—making him the NFL’s highest-paid non-quarterback.
