Mike Norvell wanted a commitment, and on Saturday he received one from Ja’Yon Cooper, a three-star player from South Pittsburg, Tennessee, who had become a top goal for the Seminoles staff over the previous several weeks.
Cooper received an offer from FSU in mid-February and visited Tallahassee in early March. From there, it appeared that Cooper would pull the trigger and provide the Seminoles their sixth commitment of the 2027 recruiting cycle.
FSU commits to Ja’Yon Cooper, a two-way athlete.
Cooper is a do-everything person at his high school. He plays quarterback, but will also line up in the secondary and at wide receiver. FSU has been courting him as a cornerback, but I wouldn’t be shocked if they also tested him in the slot to evaluate which side of the ball offers the most potential. The good news is that the personnel have some time to determine the greatest way to use him, and, in general, these types of adaptable players thrive because they can perform effectively in a variety of roles.
It has been several months since FSU got its last commitment, when in-state edge rusher Anthony Cavallaro committed in late December. The Seminoles team has welcomed a number of spring visitors over the past few weeks and recently hosted their annual Legacy Weekend recruiting event.
What is next for FSU’s recruiting efforts?
Norvell and his team will continue to amuse tourists for the following few weeks, concluding with the conclusion of spring football. The Seminoles would like to obtain a commitment from a quarterback during that period, and they hope that either Chicagoland four-star prospect Jake Nawrot or in-state candidate Wonderful Champ Monds IV would be the man. However, there may be other candidates in consideration.
247Sports ranks the Seminoles’ class among the top 20, but it need improvement, and there are several opportunities and objectives to do so.
