Hamilton expressed disappointment to Sky Sports’ Rachel Brookes, stating, “I am furious, absolutely furious. I could have been on pole, at least on the front row. I just didn’t do the job at the end. I lost a tenth and a half Through Turns One and Two, and then a tenth in the last corner. No one to blame but myself.
Qualifying has been my weakness for a minute now and I can’t figure it out. I will be kicking myself for the next couple of hours, but I need to move forward.
“The car felt better than the previous race, and the team deserves better. Perhaps they’ll learn that from Kimi [Antonelli]. Hamilton went on to say, “It was completely ridiculous and unacceptable on my part.” “I’m just not very good at qualifying, simply put. It’s terribly frustrating, but I’ll keep working. “That is all I can do.”
Russell: McLarens ‘could sail into distance’
Hamilton’s teammate George Russell qualified third, behind McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and believes the top two will “sail into the distance” during the race. Russell is hoping Norris and Piastri have poor starts, like they did at Zandvoort last Sunday, where they dropped a spot each on the opening lap after qualifying first and third, respectively.
The Mercedes driver stated, “McLaren is so swift and stunning. Hopefully, they can maintain their start performance, but if not, I believe they will fly out into the distance.
“That is where Formula One is right now. McLaren is the team to beat. If we don’t get over them right away, everyone will struggle to keep up.” Norris trails Red Bull’s Max Verstappen by 70 points in the Drivers’ Championship after winning the Dutch Grand Prix, and Russell believes Piastri may assist his teammate win at Monza if the opportunity arises.
He stated, “If Oscar finishes second, he may bridge the distance and secure Lando’s victory. Hopefully, it does not turn out that way and we battle till the end, but any team in their situation would do the same.
Verstappen qualified seventh and complained about his car’s grip, adding, “It’s very difficult to drive and find a good balance.” “If you try to solve one problem, you end up creating another. Let’s just say it’s not very driveable.
