Katelyn met Larson through her brother, Brad Sweet, who is also a professional driver, in 2014, knowing that the Hendrick Motorsports driver has a history of driving in the World of Outlaws sprint car series, where he has had heated rivalries with Sweet.
Brad Sweet is a well-known sprint racer with over 89 career wins and 280 podium places. Sweet also had a brief NASCAR career (2010–2013), competing in the Truck and Xfinity Series. Brad has served as a mentor to Katelyn throughout her childhood.
Katelyn said Kenny, “I’ve been close to Brad. I guess it’s because our paths are continually crossing. And we share the same passion: dirt racing, dirt racing in general, and dirt racing as a means of growing the sport.
He is a valuable mentor in my life, always available to discuss professional or personal matters. She says she learns a lot from Brad Sweet’s demeanor. According to her, he maintains an optimistic mindset and sees the bright side of things.
He’s constantly encouraging, and you know, life is short, so let’s have fun while simultaneously working hard.”
