Once again, Dale Earnhardt Jr. speaks on behalf of NASCAR fans as rumors of a poor decision start to circulate.
Man of the people. Raise hell, Praise Dale!
Junior took to social media earlier this week, posting a five-word tweet in response to the CW – which is taking over several races next year – potentially having its broadcast team work remotely.
That’s right … a rumor is spreading that a NASCAR race could be called by commentators … not physically at the track.
This is Kamala’s America, folks. (Not sure if that’s true, but I assume so.)
“I hope they do not,” Junior said, leaving nothing up for debate.
Dale Jr. speaks for logical NASCAR fans.
Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal reported Tuesday that the CW might make this move, and it received almost universal criticism from the NASCAR community.
Junior, unsurprisingly, led the outcry.
Nexstar Media Group’s The CW is considering having its NASCAR booth call some races remotely from NASCAR Studios in North Carolina, sources say, as part of a broader trend in sports media. Stern wrote.
Sources told SBJ that Nexstar and NASCAR are discussing how many races will be called remotely from NASCAR’s $53M, 58,000-square-foot production facility, which opened last year near Charlotte.
The CW will call some races from the track, according to one source, but specifics are still being worked out.
Wooooof. Not ideal.
I’ve been critical of NBC’s revamped booth that debuted this summer after taking over races from FOX.
For one, it no longer includes Dale Earnhardt Jr., who left NBC last year when his contract ended. He will join Amazon Prime’s NASCAR team next summer.
There was also a rumor that Junior left because NBC was considering remote broadcasts. Dale denied this, but it’s notable given this new development.
While I haven’t enjoyed NBC’s remaining team much – especially new play-by-play man Leigh Diffey – at least they’re on-site and at the track.
If the CW – the CW!!!! – goes remote for a few Xfinity races next year, I can’t imagine how disjointed it could be. Part of me is curious just for the #content.
However, as a NASCAR fan, I’m against it. Not a good look, especially since fans will already struggle to find the CW.
If they do manage to find it, only to realize no one’s at the track, I expect chaos.
