Chase Elliott advanced to the Round of 8 and continued his title bid after finishing in the top five at the Charlotte Roval. Elliott expressed excitement for the next stages of the playoff campaign and that it is “game on” for the #9 Hendrick Motorsports team.
Elliott started inside the top 10 and finished in the top five in every stage after being wrecked at Talladega, which left him just 13 points clear of the cutline going into the Round of 12 cut-off race at the Roval. In contrast to Tyler Reddick, who was in a similar situation, Elliott managed to get through the chaos and reach the Round of 8 with relative ease.
The #9 HMS driver took pride in the team’s performance at the Roval and said it was “game on” for him in the final stretch of the playoffs. Elliott, in a post-race interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, expressed his excitement about securing a spot in the Round of 8 after navigating the wildcard races in the first two rounds.
“I was quite pleased with our vehicle. As you can imagine, we were forced to defend Joey Logano, the number 22, in order to score points. That simply puts you in a very bad position when it comes to trying to win the race, you know. To be honest, though, I’m rather proud of the work it took to place in the top five after accomplishing that. It’s game on now, then. It’s anybody’s game when you get to the round of eight, so I’m excited,” Elliott remarked.
