Did Netflix’s Untamed Really Film in Yosemite National Park?

A Look at Where the Series Was Actually Shot

Although Netflix’s suspense-filled thriller Untamed is set in the iconic Yosemite National Park in California, the majority of its scenes were filmed across the border in British Columbia, Canada. Actor Eric Bana, one of the show’s stars, shared that filming in Yosemite wasn’t feasible, especially during the summer months due to limited access. “We had to be creative. We ended up shooting in an absolutely breathtaking area of Canada,” Bana revealed.

Yosemite has long been a favorite filming spot for major Hollywood productions—titles like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) and Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989) were partly shot there. However, for Untamed, the crew found alternative landscapes in British Columbia to convincingly portray Yosemite’s natural beauty.

Some of the main shooting sites included Chip Kerr Park, Mount Seymour, Murdo Frazer Park, and the Sea to Sky Gondola area near Squamish. Studio work was also done at North Shore Studios in Vancouver. In August 2024, filming took place in Port Moody, BC, drawing attention from local media. According to a report by the Tri-Cities Dispatch, scenes were shot near Henry Street, Hope Street, and William Street, with a full production setup that included semi-trucks, camera crews, set builders, and catering services.

Lily Santiago, who plays Naya Vasquez in the series, gave fans a peek behind the scenes by posting photos from their Vancouver shoot on Instagram just ahead of the show’s release.

“We were out in the elements for so much of this show,” Santiago said in a recent interview. “Every location we filmed at was just visually stunning. During the early episodes, our director Tom Bezucha really encouraged the cast to take a moment, look around, and absorb the landscape—it plays such a key role in the story.”
