Wisconsin Badgers center Nolan Winter is well known for his productive scoring, but few Badgers supporters are aware of just how efficient he has been.

According to Sports Reference, Winter has the highest 2-point field goal percentage in the Big Ten since the 1992-93 season, shooting 69% in his three years in Madison. He is ahead of stars such as Chris Webber, Owen Freeman, and Moritz Wagner on the list of all-time leaders. Winter has shot 33% of his three-pointers this season. His efficiency is even more remarkable since he moved to center last year, succeeding Steven Crowl after graduation. The move forced Winter to adapt to a more physical role, since the team required him in the post. Winter averaged 13. 1 points and 8. 5 rebounds in 31 games this season. If he returns to Wisconsin next season, he may end his career as one of the program’s most efficient scorers.

If the Badgers keep Winter, Greg Gard and his coaches are likely to make him a key component of the attack next season. Given Winter’s scoring ability, it would be difficult to justify anything else. The recent addition of Owen Foxwell, a facilitating point guard, might open up more chances for Wisconsin’s frontcourt.

Winter’s climb is another credit to Gard. In recent years, he has assisted in the development of players like as Steven Crowl, John Tonje, John Blackwell, AJ Storr, and Nick Boyd.
