Tuesday was a unique spring workout for the Ohio State Buckeyes, as players were presented with their nice slacks from the 2025 victory over the Michigan Wolverines. Ohio State broke a four-game losing streak to Michigan with a 27-9 away victory.
These gold pants were especially significant since it was the first victory over Michigan for every player on the squad. One Ohio State player commented on the Wolverines’ football program after getting gold pants on Tuesday.
Luke Montgomery explains his decision to attend Ohio State rather than Michigan.
Back in the Class of 2023, Ohio State’s starting left guard was a top 100 player being pursued by Michigan and the Buckeyes.
“Thank goodness I didn’t go there — just with what’s been going on in the last few years,” Montgomery told Cleveland. com. “I think they did an excellent job recruiting me, I wish everyone on that team the best, and so on. I hope some of them find the Lord and can return to be with the people they love and so on.
Montgomery made a powerful statement by not spewing a lot of trash talk, as competing clubs do. It’s important to note that the personnel that recruited Montgomery at Michigan are no longer there, and two additional head coaches have been named.
Ohio State will face Michigan in Columbus in November. Ryan Day will attempt to create a winning streak against the Wolverines, something he has failed to do in his seven seasons as coach.
It’s only spring practice, and we’ll hear a lot more from both sides, but Montgomery’s remarks are the first “talk” from either Michigan or Ohio State about this year’s teams.
