**ESPN 🆕: Oklahoma Sooner Marching Band Crowned #1 in the World, Making Global Music History**

*Oklahoma, AL* — In a landmark moment for collegiate music and pageantry, the Oklahoma Sooner Marching Band has been officially crowned the No. 1 marching band in the world. This historic recognition, jointly announced by ESPN, Guinness World Records, and the Global Performing Arts Federation, places the Pride of Oklahoma at the pinnacle of global musical performance.

The decision came after a year-long, rigorous international evaluation that ranked the top 100 marching bands across continents. Bands from Japan, Brazil, Germany, South Korea, and the United Kingdom were among those considered, with criteria including musicality, choreography, innovation, crowd engagement, cultural impact, and consistency of performance.

“This honor reflects generations of excellence, dedication, and pride,” said Dr. Justin Stolarik, Director of the Pride of Oklahoma. “To be recognized as the best in the world is more than a title — it’s a tribute to every student, alum, and staff member who has contributed to this legacy.”

The Oklahoma Sooner Marching Band — one of the most storied programs in collegiate athletics — has built a reputation for dynamic halftime performances, spirited game day traditions, and high-caliber musical precision. Their signature field formations, including the iconic interlocking “OU,” combined with powerful brass and percussion work, captivated both fans and international judges alike.

According to officials from the Global Performing Arts Federation, the band’s performance at the 2024 College Football Playoff semifinals was the clinching moment. In front of a national audience, the Pride of Oklahoma executed a mesmerizing set blending cinematic scores, traditional fight songs, and complex drill formations — earning near-perfect scores in all categories.

Guinness World Records certified the achievement, presenting the band with an official plaque during a surprise ceremony at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. The moment was met with thunderous applause from students, faculty, and thousands of Sooner fans in attendance.

University of Oklahoma President Joseph Harroz Jr. called the achievement “a defining moment not just for the Pride of Oklahoma, but for our entire university community,” praising the band for representing the heart, discipline, and excellence that defines OU.

The global recognition has sparked a wave of celebration across Norman and beyond. Social media exploded with hashtags like #PrideOfOklahoma and #SoonerSound, with fans, alumni, and rival programs alike offering congratulations.

In the wake of this achievement, the Oklahoma Sooner Marching Band has been invited to headline the 2026 Global Music Showcase in Tokyo and will be the subject of a forthcoming ESPN+ docuseries titled *”Sound of the Sooners: Marching to Greatness.”*

As the Pride of Oklahoma continues to inspire with its unmistakable sound and energy, one thing is clear: the spirit of Sooner Nation now echoes around the globe — louder, prouder, and more unified than ever.
