Palmer has flourished following his relocation to Kenilworth Road.
Luton’s on-loan midfielder Kasey Palmer has suggested that he would like to return to Kenilworth Road on a permanent basis next season.
Since arriving from Hull City until the end of the season in January, the 29-year-old has become extremely popular among Town fans, with his on-field displays unquestionably one of the highlights of the previous several months. Palmer, who is currently in the final year of his contract with the Tigers and has quickly become a fan favorite, had already sparked rumors that he wanted to join the Hatter on a full-time basis after staging a signing celebration for traveling supporters following his outstanding debut for Doncaster Rovers last month.
The Jamaican international repeated the feat recently when he scored at home against Exeter City, and after manager Jack Wilshere was pleased to see his apparent desire to stay with the club, Palmer spoke exclusively to the Luton News about whether he had given any consideration to his future, saying: “To be honest, there have been no serious discussions with the club about next season. It all depends on what occurs at Hull, what Hull wants to do, what they want to do here, where we are, and what we do; I’m not sure.
Hopefully it can sort of find a solution and I can return here next season, but to be honest, I don’t know; there is no definitive answer. For certain, I’m having fun with the players, being in the locker room, coming in every day, and it seems like a great fit. If it can continue next season, I would not object, but we will see what happens in the summer. I’m glad to be here, and I like the team, staff, and supporters. It’s been fantastic thus far. When I signed, the goal was to make the playoffs; if we fall short, I will be dissatisfied, but we must keep going. “
With the former Chelsea player clearly too good for the third division in which Luton are now playing, there is now a flicker of optimism that should he return to Bedfordshire, the club may find themselves in the Championship once again, as back-to-back victories over Easter have seen Jack Wilshere’s team reduce the deficit to sixth-placed Stevenage to just three points with five games remaining.
On the Hatters’ chances of finishing above the dotted line, Palmer, who contributed significantly to that with a genuinely superb performance in Monday’s 3-0 triumph over AFC Wimbledon, scoring his fourth goal since joining, said: “It was crucial over the Easter weekend. I returned from foreign duty and it was like, “Let’s focus on ourselves. ” We missed a couple of chances, and we lost points when we knew we should have done better, but that’s all behind us, and we had to focus on the games ahead.
We’ve won back-to-back, and the table looks much brighter than it did last week. There are numerous teams involved, so it is likely to go down to the wire, but we can only control what we can control, and that is to win every game. We must win as many games as possible between now and the end of the season. If it puts us in the play-offs, so be it; if not, it will be heartbreaking because we know we are more than capable of getting in the play-offs with the squad we have, but we will see.
“It was a good game, maybe the greatest we’ve played since I’ve been here, away from home definitely. ” We might have scored more goals to achieve the second and third goals, but overall it was a terrific performance. We simply had to control what we could, perform the music that we’d been attempting to perform all season, and it worked. I believe you can view the trends; everyone appears confident, which is excellent.
“I think the spectators can see what we’re trying to achieve, the manner in which the manager wants to play. On days like today, when everything comes together, the audience can tell that the players are confident, the patterns are functioning, and you can truly see the big picture. You can disregard the blips on days like now because you know what we’re attempting to do and can see it happening in the game. Scoring goals, keeping a clean sheet, it was a terrific day and maybe the ideal moment to go into Wembley. The supporters are enthused, the players are in good shape, and all we have to do now is back it up. “
With Palmer at his very, very best when taking the field at the Cherry Red Records Stadium, having just returned from Mexico, where he was a member of Jamaica’s failed attempt to qualify for the World Cup Finals, and having been on the bench against Peterborough a few days before, was one of two changes made by manager Jack Wilshere, as he and Mads Andersen replaced Nigel Lonwijk and Davy van den Berg.
When asked about the midfielder’s outstanding performance, the Town manager responded: “Kasey, even over the last few days he’s still jetlagged, and we’re discussing how to care for him, but also his quality and experience, he brings so many new things, particularly when away from home.
“He’s also fantastic at home, but his expertise of the game, his knowledge of the game, his grasp of when to slow things down at specific times to help us regain momentum,” I said from the beginning. Perhaps his most full performance, but he has to maintain it. He must meet the standard and maintain consistency every week. “I’m glad for him, since he also scored a fantastic goal. “
