The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ defense has had its share of struggles this season, but one area where they’ve excelled is in getting to the quarterback. Despite challenges in other aspects of their defense, sacks have not been a significant issue for the Buccaneers. As of Week 10, Tampa Bay ranks eighth in the NFL with 28 sacks, sitting third in the NFC behind the New York Giants (36) and Minnesota Vikings (30). The team has been especially effective since Week 4, leading the league with 26 sacks during that span.

The Buccaneers’ sack leader so far is defensive tackle Vita Vea, who has registered five sacks. Close behind him is rookie defensive tackle Calijah Kancey with four. However, the team’s edge rushers have had more difficulty in generating sacks. Anthony Nelson leads the group with two, but the edge rusher position has been an area of concern for the Bucs in terms of pass-rush production.

Despite their solid sack total, the Buccaneers’ defense has struggled in other key areas. They currently rank 28th in the league in points allowed per game, giving up an average of 26.6 points. Additionally, they sit at 31st in yards allowed per game, with opponents gaining an average of 389.3 yards per contest. These issues have been significant in contributing to the team’s overall defensive struggles.

If defensive coordinator Todd Bowles and the Buccaneers can find solutions to these issues, the team’s strong pass rush could become a more effective tool for winning games. With the defense already producing sacks at a high rate, improving in other areas could help Tampa Bay turn around their season.

To give fans a closer look at the team’s success in the pass rush, the Buccaneers shared a video compiling every sack they’ve recorded so far this season. The video highlights the team’s efforts in getting to the quarterback, showcasing the impact of players like Vea and Kancey.
