Nikhai Hill-Green, a recent transfer to Alabama, spoke with Alabama Crimson Tide on SI about his decision to join the program for his final season of college football. The linebacker, previously with the Colorado Buffaloes, chose Alabama after considering several factors in his career. Hill-Green, a talented and experienced defender, will have just one year of eligibility remaining when he joins the Tide.

A 4-Star recruit from the 2020 class, Hill-Green initially played for the Michigan Wolverines. After spending three years in Ann Arbor, he saw action in the 2020 and 2021 seasons but was sidelined by an injury in 2022, causing him to redshirt. Once healthy, Hill-Green transferred to Charlotte before making another move to Colorado in 2024. Over his four seasons, Hill-Green has racked up impressive statistics, including 206 tackles, 8 pass deflections, 4 sacks, 2 interceptions, and a forced fumble.

One of the key factors in Hill-Green’s decision to commit to Alabama was his relationship with Courtney Morgan, Alabama’s general manager. Morgan had previously worked with Hill-Green during his time at Michigan in 2021, and the linebacker said Morgan was very proactive in reaching out to him. Hill-Green explained that Morgan’s urgency in contacting him played a significant role in his decision.

Hill-Green and Morgan exchanged several texts before preparing for a visit to Alabama. The linebacker emphasized that the visit was carefully timed to coincide with a practice day so that he could see firsthand how the team operated. Hill-Green noted that this attention to detail was important in helping him make his decision.

During his visit to Alabama, Hill-Green was particularly impressed by the culture within the program. He highlighted the team’s attention to detail, noting that both players and coaches were focused on maintaining high standards. The linebacker also admired how everyone on the team held each other accountable, which further solidified his decision to join the program.

Hill-Green was also drawn to the defensive system at Alabama, particularly Kane Wommack’s 4-2-5 scheme. The linebacker explained that the scheme appealed to him because it allowed players to move quickly and created challenges for opposing offenses. Hill-Green believes that this system will help enhance his skills and showcase his versatility as a player.

In his final season with Colorado, Hill-Green played in a 4-3 defensive scheme and had an outstanding year. He finished the season with 82 tackles, 2 sacks, and 2 interceptions. Now, with the opportunity to play for Alabama, Hill-Green is excited about the potential to make even more plays and be a key contributor to the Crimson Tide’s defense.

Looking ahead, Hill-Green could make a significant impact at Alabama and position himself as a potential NFL Draft prospect. With his experience, skills, and the opportunity to play in a high-profile program, Hill-Green is poised to finish his college career on a strong note.
