TCU women’s basketball coach Mark Campbell has high praise for Notre Dame as his team prepares for their Sweet 16 matchup in the NCAA Tournament. Campbell, who has led the Horned Frogs to a historic season, acknowledges the challenge that lies ahead but remains confident in his team’s ability to compete at the highest level.

Respect for Notre Dame

Heading into the game, Campbell didn’t shy away from recognizing Notre Dame’s dominance. “Obviously, Notre Dame is one of the best teams in the country, if not the best team in the country,” he stated. This comment reflects his awareness of the Fighting Irish’s depth, experience, and championship pedigree.

Notre Dame has been one of the most consistent programs in women’s college basketball, and Campbell understands that his team will need to be at its best to advance further. The Horned Frogs have already made history by reaching their first-ever Sweet 16, but the challenge will only get tougher from here.

Emphasizing Communication and Defense

One of Campbell’s key points ahead of the matchup is the need for improved communication on the court. “To be great defensively, you’ve got to communicate at a high level. We’re going to have to be locked in and we’re going to have to play better than we did today,” he explained.

This focus on communication has been a season-long journey for the Horned Frogs. Campbell noted the contrast between his players’ off-court and on-court personalities. “For young people, it’s hilarious. Off the court, they don’t stop talking, and on the court, it’s hard to get them to talk. That’s always a journey each season,” he said.

Building on Previous Success

TCU and Notre Dame have already faced off once this season, with the Horned Frogs pulling off a 76-68 victory at the Cayman Islands Classic. That win gives them confidence, but Campbell knows this game will be even tougher.

With a trip to the Elite Eight on the line, TCU will need to bring its best effort. Campbell’s leadership and strategic mindset have already propelled the Horned Frogs further than many expected, and a win over Notre Dame would be another monumental step for the program.
