The Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers are NFC hopefuls with some notable needs on their rosters, notably at wide receiver.
Green Bay has a plethora of promising young receivers, but none have yet to have a significant breakthrough. Adding a proven pass-catching weapon for quarterback Jordan Love would be a sensible move.
San Francisco is expected to move on from Brandon Aiyuk in the near future, and with Jauan Jennings remaining a free agent and unlikely to return, receiver is still a requirement despite the acquisition of Mike Evans.
As a result, an NFL analyst believes the Packers and 49ers are ideal destinations for a former All-Pro receiver who is still available.
The Packers and 49ers are both potential landing destinations for Deebo Samuel.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Mark Morales-Smith, the Packers and 49ers should pursue Deebo Samuel, a free agent receiver for the Washington Commanders.
Despite the fact that Samuel does not have the same explosivity as before, the 30-year-old is still a productive player, recording 72 receptions for 727 yards and five touchdowns for the Commanders this past season while dealing with inconsistent quarterback play.
Samuel would immediately join as one of Green Bay’s top receivers, providing much-needed expertise to the position group. He would also be a great mentor for the young pass-catchers, particularly Jayden Reed, who has a similar playing style to Samuel.
Samuel might also reunite in San Francisco. The South Carolina native would work nicely with Evans and Ricky Pearsall, and he is already familiar with Kyle Shanahan’s system.
At this time, Samuel should be reasonably affordable to sign, and the Packers and 49ers should look into acquiring the veteran to contribute important snaps for them in 2026.
