Matt LaFleur Still Not Satisfied After Packers Snap Home Skid vs. Lions
The Green Bay Packers finally broke their Lambeau Field losing streak against the Detroit Lions, but head coach Matt LaFleur didn’t spend all of Sunday night celebrating.
Detroit’s recent rise into one of the NFC’s top contenders has done more than just raise ticket prices at Ford Field—it has created a traveling fan base that shows up in force on the road. During the Lions’ season-opening win over the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in 2023, Arrowhead Stadium featured plenty of Honolulu Blue in the stands. A few weeks later, those same fans invaded Lambeau Field, leading to a public statement from the Packers organization that came across as more whining than anything else.
In that 2023 matchup, Detroit handed Green Bay another loss and continued what became three consecutive victories in Wisconsin. That stretch seemed to break LaFleur’s spirit at the time, and the frustration has clearly lingered.
Fast forward to Week 1 of the 2025 season: the Packers finally turned the tables, outmuscling the Lions in the trenches for a 27–13 victory. While the win should have been a relief for LaFleur, the story didn’t end there.
Before kickoff, Detroit Football Network’s Justin Rogers noted how Lions supporters once again packed into Lambeau, creating a visible presence. Coaches often nitpick after a win, but LaFleur’s first words at the postgame podium weren’t about his players’ effort or adjustments. Instead, he turned his attention to the fans.
“The fans that showed up brought great energy,” LaFleur said. “But the ones who sold their tickets to Lions fans need to be better.”
Nearly two years after the Packers issued their initial complaint about opposing supporters buying up seats, LaFleur doubled down on the sentiment—directly criticizing his own fan base for letting rival supporters take over.
For Detroit fans, the comments are almost an invitation to keep it going. By acknowledging how much it bothers the Packers, LaFleur may have guaranteed that the “Lambeau takeover” will remain a trend whenever the Lions come to town.
